What is Beechams all-in-one?

Beechams all-in-one is a type of medicine used to relieve cold and flu symptoms. It is available as tablets or a syrup for your preference.

The three active ingredients in Beechams all-in-one are:

  • Paracetamol – a mild analgesic which relieves pain and fever
  • Phenylephrine hydrochloride – a nasal decongestant
  • Guaifenesin – works as an expectorant to help cough up phlegm from the airways

If you are looking to buy Beechams all-in-one online, you can order it through our secure online pharmacy and get it as soon as tomorrow.

What is Cold and Flu?

Cold and flu infections are caused by viruses such as rhinovirus, influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus. These viruses mostly attack the body’s upper respiratory system and can easily spread to other people through droplets from cough and sneezing, as they can survive on the body and other surfaces for 24 hours.

If you have cold or flu infections, you may experience symptoms like:

  • Body aches
  • Coughing
  • Fever
  • Headaches
  • Nasal congestion
  • Shivering
  • Sneezing

As cold and flu infections are caused by viruses, they cannot be treated with antibiotics, which are used to treat bacterial infections. Attempting to treat a viral infection, such as a cold or the flu, with antibiotics can lessen the effectiveness of antibiotics for times when you need to take them to fight a bacterial infection.

Cold and flu treatments focus on reducing the symptoms rather than attempting to cure the virus. While taking treatment for colds and flu, it's important to drink plenty of fluids and eat regularly to give your body enough energy to fight off the infection.

If cold and flu symptoms are not treated, they can lead to more severe respiratory conditions like throat or ear infections, pneumonia, bronchitis or even trigger asthma attacks. If you have an underlying respiratory condition which might be exacerbated by a cold or flu infection, speak to your doctor about how you can manage your condition while you are fighting a viral infection.

It's important to keep up to date with your flu immunisations, especially if you are at risk due to a weakened immune system. Speak to your doctor about the flu jab, which is usually available from your GP surgery or some pharmacists.

Whether you are suffering from a cold or flu, or just want to be prepared for the event, Prescription Doctor offers a range of cold and flu remedies which you can buy online.

How does Beechams all-in-one capsules work?

Beechams all-in-one is a combination of three active ingredients which work in different ways to help manage cold and flu symptoms.

Paracetamol works in the brain by reducing the production of prostaglandin, a lipid hormone produced by the body in response to injury or illness, which causes inflammation and pain. Paracetamol also works to reduce feverish symptoms by acting on the temperature regulatory part of the brain, to lower the body’s temperature.

Guaifenesin is an expectorant, which means it helps to loosen mucus in the respiratory airways, making it easier to cough up phlegm.

Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a nasal decongestant which restricts blood vessels in the nose, reducing inflammation and making it easier to breathe.

How do I take Beechams all-in-one?

Take 2 tablets of Beechams all-in-one every 4 hours, but do not take more than 8 tablets within 24 hours. The tablets should be swallowed with water either with or without food. If you are taking Beechams all-in-one syrup, take one dose of 20 mls every 4 hours and do not take more than 4 doses in a 24-hour period. Do not take Beechams all-in-one for more than 5 days without talking to your doctor first.
