Patient Reviews: How Mounjaro Has Made a Difference

Treatment Information

Table of contents:

Each Mounjaro weight loss pen includes four doses, along with extra medication for priming purposes. When the four doses have been administered, patients may notice residual medication visible through the window on the injection pen. Please be aware that the pen is designed to lock after the fourth dose, preventing any further use. This extra medication is intentionally added by the manufacturer to ensure proper priming of the pen.

What is Mounjaro KwikPen for Weight Loss?

Mounjaro KwikPen is a prefilled once-weekly injectable weight loss pen. It’s available in the UK for weight loss to individuals who meet specific criteria, when used in conjunction with a dedicated diet and exercise plan.

Mounjaro KwikPen is the brand name of its active ingredient, tirzepatide and is manufactured and licensed by Eli Lilly. Mounjaro is self-injected once per week and works by reducing your appetite.

How Does Mounjaro Work?

Mounjaro mimics two digestive hormones, gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). These are the two main incretin hormones that are secreted by the intestines when sugar (glucose) or nutrients that trigger the release of insulin are consumed.

By mimicking these hormones, Mounjaro works to promote weight loss by:

  • Increasing insulin secretion - lowers and stabilises blood glucose levels
  • Delaying gastric emptying - prevents spikes in blood sugar levels and helps you feel fuller for longer
  • Reducing food consumption - controls your appetite, meaning you feel less hungry and eat less

Mounjaro KwikPen stimulates the specific areas of your brain that regulate your appetite, making you feel full and eat less. By lowering the amount you eat, Mounjaro makes it easier to lose weight. These effects and tirzepatide’s influence on insulin sensitivity make Mounjaro an innovative weight loss treatment. When combined with lifestyle changes, the weight loss injection can lead to significant weight loss in suitable patients.

Mounjaro Dosage

The starting dose for Mounjaro KwikPen is 2.5 mg per week for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, our healthcare professional will increase your dose to 5 mg once per week.

As of September 2024, all Mounjaro dosages, including 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg, are available in the UK for prescription. Our weight loss clinicians will recommend the most suitable dose for you.

For instance, if you experience only minor side effects while continuing to experience hunger cravings or if you haven't shed a sufficient amount of weight, our clinicians would consider adjusting your dosage upwards. Additional considerations, such as age and existing medical conditions, will also influence the frequency of dosage adjustments.

You will only need to increase your dose if a lower dose doesn’t manage your weight. Our weight loss clinicians will adjust your dose; please do not increase the dosage yourself.

How to use the Mounjaro weight loss pen

Before injecting Mounjaro for the first time, you should first pick the day of the week you want to use it. It should be the same day each week. You can set an alarm on your phone to remind you not to forget your Mounjaro day.

Once you have chosen your day, follow these simple steps:

  1. Inspect the pen. Ensure you have the correct dose and that it is not expired. Ensure the pen isn’t damaged and that the medicine is not frozen, cloudy, or contains particles. It should be colourless to slightly yellow.
  2. Remove the base cap. Pull the cap straight off.
  3. Needle Preparation: Attach a new needle to the pen
  4. Priming the Pen: Slowly turn the dose knob until you hear two clicks; this should show an extended line in the dose window.
    1. Hold the pen with the needle pointing up and tap the cartridge holder gently to collect air bubbles at the top.
    2. Release some medicine into the air by pushing the dose knob until it stops.
  5. Choose your injection site. You or someone else can inject Mounjaro into your stomach (at least 5 centimetres from the belly button), thighs, or the back of your upper arms.
    1. Change or rotate your injection site each week within the same area, but choose a different specific site.
  6. Dose Injection: Turn the dose knob until it stops at the one icon, as shown in the dose window. Insert the needle into your skin and push the dose knob until it stops.
  7. Press and hold the button for up to 10 seconds. Listen for the first click, which means the injection has started, and the second click means it is complete.
  8. Post-Injection. Count to 5 while holding the dose knob in place. Confirm the 0 icon is in the dose window before removing the needle. If you do not see the 0 icon, re-insert the needle and complete your injection. Do not redial the dose.

How much weight can you lose in a month with Mounjaro?

How much weight can you lose in a month with Mounjaro

How much weight you can lose will depend on many factors, including how your body reacts to the active ingredient in Mounjaro and the other lifestyle changes you are making to aid your weight loss.

Studies have shown that in patients with type 2 diabetes, after 5 weeks of using the highest dose of Mounjaro, the average weight loss was 2.6 kg. After 11 weeks, the same study found that Mounjaro users lost around 11 kg of weight compared to 7 kg in people using Wegovy.

It’s important to remember that weight loss takes time and effort, and you may only notice small changes in the first few weeks of using Mounjaro. Results from a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) show that for the first 4 weeks, weight loss can be gradual, but a greater loss is seen with prolonged treatment. After 72 weeks, the average weight loss on a 5 mg once-weekly dose of Mounjaro was 16% or 16.1 kg. On the highest dose of 15 mg once per week, the mean weight loss was 23.6 kg.

How often should I take Mounjaro?

Each dose of Mounjaro KwikPen is administered once per week for four weeks. After four weeks, our clinicians will assess your progress and how well you tolerate the current dose. They will advise you to either increase, decrease, or continue your current dose.

What to do if I miss a dose?

If you have missed a Mounjaro dose and it has been:

  • 4 days or less:
    • Inject your missed dose as soon as you remember, and inject your next dose as usual on your normal scheduled day
  • More than 4 days:
    • Do not take your missed dose and inject your next dose as normal on your scheduled day

You should never take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. There should always be a minimum of 3 days between each Mounjaro dose.

How effective is Mounjaro for weight loss?

The effect of Mounjaro on weight loss was studied in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial known as SURMOUNT-3. After 12 weeks of intensive lifestyle intervention, participants achieved an average weight loss of 21.1%, which increased to 26.6% over 84 weeks.

A further study, SURMOUNT-4, demonstrated that over 88 weeks, the average weight loss in people receiving tirzepatide (Mounjaro) was 26%. The study found that withdrawing treatment led to weight gain, while continued treatment maintained weight loss.

Compared to semaglutide, the active ingredient in weight loss injections, including Wegovy and Ozempic, tirzepatide (Mounjaro) treatment results in greater weight reduction. One study found that tirzepatide resulted in 17.8% weight loss compared to 12.4% for semaglutide over 72 weeks.

To maximise the benefits of Mounjaro, it is recommended to follow the Mounjaro diet plan developed by our nutritionist specifically for Mounjaro.

Mounjaro Certifications and Approvals

The UK Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) licensed the use of Mounjaro KwikPen for weight loss in November 2023. It has been authorised for people over 18 who have a BMI of 30 kg/m² or more, or adults with a BMI between 27-30 kg/m² who also have weight-related health problems such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart problems.

Mounjaro side effects

Very common

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) may occur when Mounjaro is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes with medicines that contain a sulphonylurea and/or insulin. Symptoms of low blood sugar may include headache, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, feeling hungry, confusion, irritability, fast heartbeat, and sweating. Our clinician will instruct you on how to manage low blood sugar.
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Diarrhoea
  • Being sick (vomiting) – this usually goes away over time
  • Constipation

* These side effects are usually not severe. They are most common when first starting tirzepatide (Mounjaro) but decrease over time in most patients.

** Constipation and vomiting are very common when used for weight management, but are also common when used for type 2 diabetes.

Common Side Effects:

  • Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycaemia): Occurs with type 2 diabetes treatment when used with metformin and SGLT2 inhibitors. Symptoms include headache, tiredness, confusion, and sweating. Our clinicians will guide you on how to handle this.
  • Allergic Reactions: Includes rash, itching, and eczema.
  • Dizziness and Low Blood Pressure: Noticed in treatments aimed at losing weight.
  • Reduced Hunger: Experienced during type 2 diabetes treatment.
  • Stomach Issues: Pain, indigestion, bloating, burping, and heartburn (GORD).

Uncommon Side Effects (Affects Up to 1 in 100 People):

  • Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycaemia): Similar to above, when used with just metformin for type 2 diabetes.
  • Gallstones and Gallbladder Infection (Cholecystitis): Mainly noted in weight management treatments.
  • Weight Loss: Observed in type 2 diabetes management.
  • Pain at Injection Site.
  • Increase in Calcitonin Levels in the blood.

  • Are under 18
  • Are pregnant, want to get pregnant, or are breastfeeding

Mounjaro warnings

Before using Mounjaro for weight loss, you should tell the clinician if you:

  • Have major problems digesting food or food remains in your stomach for longer than normal
  • Have an eye issue, such as diabetic retinopathy or macular oedema
  • Use diabetes medicines, like sulfonylurea or insulin
  • Have liver or kidney problems

While taking Mounjaro, you may experience sickness and/or diarrhoea, which can cause dehydration if your body doesn’t take on enough fluids. It is important to drink plenty of water while receiving Mounjaro weight loss injections.

If you are taking a contraceptive pill, Mounjaro may reduce its effectiveness. So, you may need to change your contraceptive method, such as condoms or a non-oral form of contraception, for 4 weeks after you start Mounjaro treatment. You should do this after each Mounjaro dose increase.

Mounjaro vs Wegovy: A Comprehensive Comparison

When it comes to weight loss injections, Mounjaro and Wegovy are two of the biggest names on the market. If you’ve been researching your weight loss options, you’ve likely come across both, but what is it that sets them apart? Is one injection more effective or better tolerated than the other? In this guide, we compare Mounjaro vs Wegovy, highlighting similarities, differences, and considerations for switching between them. Whatever your circumstances and weight loss goals may be, we’re here to help you take the next step. Read on to find out more.  Compare Treatment Cost NowWhat are Mounjaro and Wegovy?Mounjaro and Wegovy are self-administered, prescription-only weight loss medications that work by mimicking digestive hormones that regulate appetite and blood sugar levels. When combined with healthy lifestyle changes, either approach yields greater weight loss benefits than diet and exercise alone. Despite belonging to the same family of drugs, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists have slightly different actions. Wegovy contains the active ingredient semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that reduces appetite and calorie intake. Originally, it was developed to treat type 2 diabetes because of its benefits on blood sugar regulation, and has since been licensed for weight loss in obese and overweight people with related health conditions.  {add_product_block(380)} Mounjaro, however, contains tirzepatide, which has a dual action, binding to both GLP-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptors, enhancing its effects on weight loss and blood sugar control. {add_product_block(437)} Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are administered once per week via subcutaneous injection. What is the Difference Between Wegovy and Mounjaro? The primary differences between Mounjaro and Wegovy lie in their active ingredients and mechanisms of action. Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which targets two receptors, while Wegovy contains semaglutide and targets just one. These differences may explain why Mounjaro is considered more effective for weight loss.We discuss the differences between Mounjaro and Wegovy in more detail below. Active IngredientsTirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, acts on two receptors in the brain, GLP-1 and GIP, making it a dual agonist, and enhancing its weight loss effects. Weogvy’s active ingredient only binds to the GLP-1 receptors in the brain. Here's an illustration of how Wegovy works to help with weight loss:   Mounjaro, meanwhile, works like this:  Although the active ingredients differ, both weight loss injections function as appetite suppressants, signalling to your brain when you feel full and delaying stomach emptying. They also manage blood sugar levels, which can have a positive effect on your appetite and overall metabolic health. EffectivenessWhether you choose Mounjaro or Wegovy, you’ll be safe in the knowledge that both have undergone rigorous testing in clinical trials to prove their effectiveness and safety. At the highest dose, Mounjaro can help you lose up to 22.5% of your initial body weight after 72 weeks, compared to 15% on the 2.4 mg strength of Wegovy over 68 weeks. We will discuss the effectiveness of Mounjaro and Wegovy in more detail later. Despite differences in effectiveness in clinical trials, the figures represent an average outcome, and individual weight loss experiences can vary. Equally, just because Mounjaro appears to bring about greater weight changes doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best option for you. That’s why an in-depth consultation with a clinician is critical to help you find the most effective option for you based on your individual circumstances. Cardiovascular Assistance As things stand, Wegovy is the only weight loss injection that is licensed in the UK to reduce the risk of serious heart problems or strokes in overweight and obese adults. This additional indication was based on results from a multinational clinical trial showing that Wegovy reduced the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) by 20%.A study published in 2025 found that Mounjaro was non-inferior to a medicine called Trulicity (dulaglutide) when it comes to the development of MACE-3 (cardiovascular death, heart attack, and nonfatal stroke) events. Trulicity has already been shown to reduce the incidence of cardiovascular events in previous trials. Despite this result, Mounjaro is not yet licensed in the UK for cardiovascular issues. Impact on Oral Contraceptives Semaglutide (Wegovy) and other active ingredients, such as liraglutide (Nevolat), do not affect the bioavailability of oral contraceptives. This means that women of childbearing age do not need to also use a barrier method of contraception (such as condoms) if they’re already taking the combined pill or mini pill. Mounjaro users, on the other hand, are advised to use a non-oral form of contraception to ensure they remain fully protected against the chances of becoming pregnant. DosageWhen you start your treatment, you’ll be given a dosage schedule for either Mounjaro or Wegovy. The dosage schedule varies slightly for each medication, but we’ll discuss this in more detail later.

Mounjaro is manufactured by the North American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, while Wegovy is produced by the Danish company Novo Nordisk.Mounjaro vs Wegovy: The SimilaritiesNot everything about Wegovy and Mounjaro is different. They also share several similarities, including:Route of AdministrationWhether your preferred injection is Mounjaro or Wegovy, both are subcutaneous injections supplied in multidose pens. That means each pen already has the exact dose of medication you need within it, so there are no complicated drawing-up procedures like you may have witnessed in your GP surgery. Instead, each pen is loaded with four weeks' worth of medication and dispenses it conveniently in four equal doses. [medical_form product_id="380" text="START YOUR WEGOVY CONSULTATION TODAY" type="button"]  We’ve put together some guides to give you a better idea about how to inject Wegovy or how to use Mounjaro before you commit to treatment.Injection SiteMounjaro and Wegovy can be injected into 3 main sites:Stomach: Make sure you inject the dose at least 2 inches away from your belly buttonThigh: Divide each thigh in half horizontally and rotate the injection sites weeklyUpper arm: You’ll need to get someone to help you inject the medication into the back of your upper armA Prescription is RequiredNeither Wegovy nor Mounjaro is available over the counter, so you will need a consultation with your doctor or an online pharmacy like Prescription Doctor to obtain a prescription. This ensures that the medication is safe and suitable for you to take and that you satisfy the eligibility criteria. To get Mounjaro or Wegovy from Prescription Doctor, you will need:a body mass index (BMI) of at least 30 ora BMI between 27 and 30, plus at least one weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure
to be over 18TitrationWeight loss medication, like all medicines, can cause side effects, and it may take some time for your body to adjust. For this reason, you’ll always begin your treatment with the lowest Mounjaro or Wegovy dose, which will increase every four weeks until you reach the maximum maintenance dose suitable for you. However, your treatment journey may take a little longer, or you may find you don’t need the highest dose to achieve your weight loss goals. Some people stick to a lower dose because it works for them. Your clinician will provide support throughout your treatment and help you determine if you need to adjust your dose at the usual intervals.Mounjaro to Wegovy Dose Conversion ChartThe dosage schedules for Mounjaro and Wegovy differ slightly, reflecting the differences in their active ingredients and also how they work. Although they share several similarities, each medication comes in different strengths and has a unique titration schedule. However, if you find that the lower 1.7 mg/week or 2.4mg/week strengths are effective for you, or you're experiencing side effects with the 7.2 mg dose, you can stick to the lower dose.If you follow the dosage schedule below, you should reach the maximum dose at week 21.  Mounjaro treatment begins at 2.5 mg/ week and gradually increases every four weeks until you reach the maximum dose that’s right for you. Although the maximum dose is 15 mg/week, some people prefer a lower dose because it is effective for them or because they experience side effects at higher doses. It’s all about working out what’s best for you. Your clinician will help you do this.   Wegovy vs Mounjaro Cost ComparisonCost can be a major factor when deciding which weight loss injection is best for you. (10 mg - 15 mg) Wegovy vs Mounjaro Cost-Effectiveness When determining how cost-effective a weight loss treatment actually is, it’s important to take into account the potential results you could achieve. This is because you may feel it’s worth paying a little more if you could expect to lose more bodyweight per month. To illustrate this, let’s take a look at a clinical trial that compared weight loss with Wegovy vs Mounjaro over 72 weeks (18 months). The results from the SURMOUNT-5 study are as follows:OutcomeMounjaroWegovyAverage Weight Loss50.3 lbs (22.8 kg)33.1 lbs (15.0 kg)Average % Weight Loss20.2%13.7%>25% Weight Loss31.6%16.1%Waist Circumference Reduction18.4 cm13.0 cm  In the trial, participants were given either the maximum tolerated dose of tirzepatide (10 mg or 15 mg) or what was the maximum tolerated dose of semaglutide at the time (1.7 mg or 2.4 mg). Ultimately, comparing Mounjaro vs Wegovy in terms of price comes down to whether you value a lower monthly price point or prefer more ‘bang for your buck’. Wegovy and Mounjaro Side EffectsWegovy and Mounjaro side effects are similar, with the following being the most common:feeling sick (nausea)being sick (vomiting)constipationdiarrhoeastomach painweakness or tiredness headacheIn most cases, these side effects are mild and improve or resolve once your body becomes accustomed to the medication. However, if you’re concerned, it is advisable to speak with your clinician or pharmacist for further guidance. What’s Better: Wegovy or Mounjaro?Despite both delivering positive results, Mounjaro is considered more effective for weight loss thanks to its dual-action mechanism. Studies show that a greater proportion of participants lost at least 5% of their body weight over 72 weeks on the highest Mounjaro dose than over 68 weeks on Wegovy. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best choice for everyone. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, 91% of people who received the maximum maintenance dose of 15 mg per week lost at least 5% of their starting body weight, compared with 35% on placebo. The study also found that after 72 weeks:The 5 mg per week dose helped people lose 16% of their starting body weightPeople given 10 mg per week lost 21.4% of  their initial weightThe 15 mg per week dose induced a 22.5% weight lossThe STEP-1 trial, on the other hand, investigated the effectiveness of Wegovy and found that after 68 weeks, the average weight loss on the maintenance dose of 2.4 mg per week was 15%. More people who received semaglutide lost at least 5% of their starting body weight compared to those who received a placebo (86% vs 32%).Regardless, both medications require long-term use to maintain weight loss, and a commitment to healthy lifestyle changes—including dietary changes and increased physical activity—is necessary to achieve the best results. It’s also important to understand the stages of weight loss so you know what to expect when using weight loss medication. How to Choose Between Wegovy and MounjaroChoosing between Mounjaro and Wegovy will depend on several factors that are unique to you. There’s no denying that both weight loss injections are safe and effective, particularly when used alongside a diet and exercise plan, but knowing which one is right for you will depend on things like your:Preference: You may prefer one treatment over another based on reviews, research, or testimonials.Medical history: You may be allergic to the ingredients of one injection, making the other a more suitable option. Alternatively, if you have type 2 diabetes, Mounjaro may be more effective.Cost and availability: Increased demand for these medications may influence your decision about whether Mounjaro or Wegovy is better. Likewise, the long-term cost may also be a deciding factor. Side effects: If you start one treatment and experience intolerable side effects, the clinician may recommend switching to the other. If you’re still unsure which option is right for you, don’t worry - our clinicians are here to help. They’ll walk you through the most suitable option, taking into account your medical history, current medications, and any other concerns you may have. Wegovy and Mounjaro Weight Loss: Before and AfterMounjaro and Wegovy have yielded impressive weight loss results in both clinical trials and real-world use. Just look at what one patient had to say about Mounjaro:“It's amazing, no side effects, hardly any appetite, calorie deficit every day. Full for longer even though I only eat small amounts. Weight loss steady each week, better that Saxenda, and Ozempic in my opinion” – Karen HardyWegovy has also earned a whopping 4.7 out of 5 stars from Prescription Doctor patients. Here’s just one of the Wegovy reviews we’ve received:"Wegovy is brilliant and works so well. It’s been a very positive experience using it and losing weight. I’ve always struggled with my weight, but this has helped me shed the weight.” – KatCan You Switch Between Wegovy and Mounjaro?Yes, switching from Wegovy to Mounjaro, or vice versa, permanently is possible under your clinician's guidance, but you can’t alternate between the two weight loss injections. Switching between Wegovy and Mounjaro will require you to start on the lowest dose and titrate up, even if you are currently on the highest dose of the other.Whichever you are switching from and to, you will always need to leave five weeks between finishing your current treatment and starting the new weight loss medication. This allows the active ingredient in your current medication enough time to leave your system and prevent any drug interactions. You might think about switching from Wegovy to Mounjaro or vice versa if you:Aren’t achieving the weight loss results you were expecting despite following a diet and exercise plan and taking the medication correctly Are experiencing side effects that aren’t going away or are difficult to manageHave tried Wegovy before Mounjaro was released, and would now like to try MounjaroAre concerned about the cost of your current medicationCan You Take Wegovy and Mounjaro Together? No, you cannot take Wegovy and Mounjaro together because it can increase the risk of side effects and may put your health in danger. Because Mounjaro and Wegovy act on similar pathways, combining the two will not enhance their benefits; therefore, it's essential to choose the one that’s best for you and stick to it.If one medication isn’t as effective as you’d like it to be or is causing you side effects, switching rather than combining is recommended. Speak to your clinician about changing your weight loss medication. Why Buy Mounjaro and Wegovy From Prescription DoctorWhen it comes to choosing between Wegovy and Mounjaro, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. How To Use Mounjaro Injection Pen

If you’re interested in Mounjaro, you’re probably already aware of its potential health benefits. Mounjaro is one of several weight loss injections licensed for prescription in the UK, and can promote significant weight reduction by reducing appetite and calorie intake. There’s no doubt that Mounjaro is a highly effective weight loss tool, but how do you inject it?Deciding to use an injectable medication requires careful consideration. While Mounjaro is perfectly safe to inject at home, it’s important to understand how to do so correctly. Here, we’ll discuss how to inject Mounjaro, how to use Mounjaro pens, and potential injection sites. [medical_form product_id="437" text="START YOUR MOUNJARO CONSULTATION TODAY" type="button"] Injection Sites for MounjaroMounjaro is injected subcutaneously (under the skin) of the upper arm, upper thigh, or stomach, at least 5 cm from the navel. If you plan to inject yourself, the stomach and upper thighs are usually the easiest places to reach. If you want to inject into your upper arm, you may need someone else to help you.You can use the same body part every week if you like, but you’ll need to use a different Mounjaro injection site within that area. If you also inject insulin, choose a different injection site for your Mounjaro dose. How to Use Mounjaro Pens: Instruction VideoFor a step-by-step guide on how to inject Mounjaro, watch the video below. If you'd prefer written instructions, our guide has you covered.     How to Prepare for Mounjaro InjectionsGetting to grips with how to inject Mounjaro is a straightforward process when you prepare beforehand. Before injecting Mounjaro, you should gather your supplies, choose your injection site, and wash your hands. You should also inspect the pen for signs of damage and ensure you have the correct dose. Here's how to prepare for Mounjaro injections:Gather Supplies  First, gather all the necessary items to administer your injection. These include:Your Mounjaro penA Mounjaro pen needleA swabA cotton ballSkin-friendly alcohol wipesA sharps containerWash Your Hands  Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before you inject Mounjaro. This will reduce your risk of infection.Choose and Clean the Injection Site  You can inject Mounjaro under the skin of your stomach (at least 5 cm from your belly button), upper thigh, or upper arm. Once you’ve chosen your injection site, clean the area with an alcohol wipe to disinfect the skin and limit your risk of infection. You should rotate your injection sites with every dose to prevent hard lumps from developing under your skin. Here are some specific tips for each potential location:Stomach: Avoid scar tissue and stay at least two inches away from your belly button.     Back of your upper arm: You may need someone to help you reach.      Thigh: Choose a different area for every dose to minimise the risk of scar tissue or injection. Don’t inject into areas where your skin is irritated or bruised.Inspect the Pen  Inspect your Mounjaro pen carefully before you administer the injection. Do not use the medication if the:Medication name or dose strength is incorrectProduct has expiredPen has visible damageMedication is frozen, cloudy, discoloured, or has bits in it (it should be colourless or slightly yellow)Don’t worry if you see little air bubbles in the medication, as these are removed during the priming stage described below. {add_product_block(437)} How to Prime Mounjaro PensOnce the necessary preparations have been made, the next step in our guide on how to inject Mounjaro is the priming phase. This process is crucial, as it removes air bubbles from the medicine and ensures the pen is working correctly. Here's how to prime Mounjaro pens:Remove the Cap  Remove the pen cap by pulling it straight off, and clean the inner seal with a swab.Insert the Needle  You’ll need to use a new pen needle for each injection to minimise your risk of infection or needle blockage. Once you’ve selected a needle, pull the paper tab off the outer needle shield (but leave the shield in place). Next, fix the needle to the pen by pushing it straight on and twisting until it’s securely attached. Now that your needle is attached to the pen, you can remove the outer needle shield. Underneath, you’ll find a smaller, inner needle shield. Remove and discard this, but keep the outer needle shield, as it can be reused.Prime the Pen  To prime the Mounjaro pen for injection, slowly turn the knob until you hear two clicks and the extended line appears in the dose window. Next, hold the pen with the needle pointing up and gently tap the cartridge holder. This will cause any air bubbles to rise to the top of the cartridge. Finally, release some medicine from the pen by compressing the dose knob and slowly counting to five. This process removes air from the cartridge, ensuring the pen operates properly. You'll know your pen is primed when a small amount of medicine appears at the tip of the needle. The ‘0’ icon must also be shown in the dose window. Do not inject medication into your body at this stage. Select the Correct Dosage  To select your Mounjaro dosage, turn the dose knob until it stops and a ‘1’ appears in the dose window. This indicates a 0.6 ml dose of Mounjaro.Mounjaro is administered according to a specific dosing schedule, and the amount of tirzepatide in each 0.6 ml dose varies depending on your schedule. Mounjaro pens are available in six dosages: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 2.7 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg. {add_product_block(437)} How to Use the Mounjaro PenThe final stage in our guide about how to inject Mounjaro is administering the injection itself. Once the pen is primed, you're ready to inject the medication. Get into a comfortable position before following the steps below:Position the Pen  Prepare to inject your Mounjaro by positioning the needle over the skin of your chosen injection site. If you are nervous about administering your injection, you may tense up. Try to do something to relax, such as listening to soothing music. Sitting rather than standing can also help to relax your muscles.Administer the Injection  Insert the needle into your skin and inject the medicine by pushing the dose knob until it stops. Slowly count to five while holding down the dose knob until a ‘0’ appears in the dose window. Don’t remove the needle until you see the ‘0.’Remove the Pen  Gently remove the needle from your skin. Don’t worry if you see a drop of medicine at the tip of the needle; this is normal and won’t affect your dose.Make sure you can see the ‘0’ in the dose window, as this indicates you have received the full dose. If you don’t see the ‘0’ icon, re-insert the needle and complete the injection. Don’t redial the dose or repeat the injection, as this could result in a larger dose than intended.Once your injection is complete, you can carefully replace the outer needle shield. Check the Injection Site  Have a look at your injection site after you’ve administered Mounjaro. If you see a drop of blood, lightly press the injection site with a cotton ball. Finally, wash your hands again with soap and water. How to Remove the Needle from Mounjaro PensYou should always remove the needle from your Mounjaro pen before putting it away. Doing so helps prevent leakage and needle blockage, and stops air from entering the pen during storage. To remove it, simply unscrew the capped needle from the pen and place it in a yellow sharps container. Never reuse needles. Your local council may be able to collect and dispose of used needles and other medical waste. Finally, replace the pen cap before storing your Mounjaro. {add_product_block(437)} How to Inject Mounjaro: Frequently Asked QuestionsUnderstanding how to inject Mounjaro is relatively straightforward once you are familiar with the procedure. However, you may still have questions, like ‘What if I forget to prime my pen?’ and ‘How do I know if I administered the dose correctly?’We’ll discuss the answers to these questions and more below.Do You Have to Prime Mounjaro Every Time? It’s essential that you prime your Mounjaro pen before each injection. Completing this process removes air from the pen cartridge, ensuring you administer the correct dose. It also confirms that the needle is not blocked and the pen is working correctly. I Forgot to Prime My Mounjaro Pen. What Happens? You should prime your Mounjaro pen before each injection to ensure the needle and pen are functioning properly. If you inject without priming the pen first, you may not receive the full dose of Mounjaro, or you could even end up breaking the pen itself. If you have concerns about any of your Mounjaro injections, reach out to our licensed clinicians for advice. Can I Reuse Mounjaro Needles? No, it’s not advised to reuse Mounjaro needles. Using a new needle for each injection reduces your risk of infection and needle blockage, things that can either impact your weight loss journey or your health. It’s therefore important to dispose of used needles in a sharps container after each use.Can You Double Dose Mounjaro? You must not take a double dose of Mounjaro. It won’t make the medication more effective, but it may lead to increased side effects. If you think you’ve taken too much Mounjaro, you should speak to a healthcare professional for advice. For more information about the side effects of Mounjaro and how long they last, please check out our guides. How Do I Store Mounjaro?Store any unused Mounjaro pens in the refrigerator (between 2°C and 8°C). Used pens, however, can be kept at room temperature (up to 30°C). You can store your Mounjaro pen at room temperature for up to 30 days after your first injection.Keep your Mounjaro pen away from extreme heat or cold. If frozen, discard the pen. You should also store the pen in its original packaging to protect it from light exposure. How to Know if I Injected Mounjaro Correctly?Once you’ve primed your Mounjaro pen, you will turn the dosing knob until it stops and a ‘1’ icon appears in the dose window. This indicates a full 0.6 ml dose. After you inject Mounjaro, the dose window should show a ‘0’ instead. This indicates that you have successfully administered the full dose.If you don’t see a ‘0,’ re-insert the needle and push the dose knob to inject the rest of the medicine.Should You Let Mounjaro Warm Up Before Injecting? You can inject Mounjaro straight from the refrigerator, if you like. However, allowing the medicine to warm up a little can make it more comfortable to inject. Don’t try to warm your Mounjaro pen by applying heat. Instead, let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before administering the injection.Prescription Doctor: Your Reliable Weight Loss PartnerIf you’re thinking about embarking on a weight loss journey, the good news is that you don’t need to go through it alone. How long do Mounjaro side effects last?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is one of the UK’s most popular weight loss injections and is widely considered a safe and effective way to lose weight. Research reports that people on Mounjaro can lose over 20% of their total body weight, significantly reducing their long-term risk of weight-related health conditions. However, like all medications, Mounjaro also has the potential to cause side effects. The most common side effects of Mounjaro are gastrointestinal symptoms, which are thought to affect the majority of people using weight loss injections. These side effects are usually mild to moderate and tend to improve with time, but they can be uncomfortable to live with. So, how long do Mounjaro side effects last, and is there anything you can do to reduce them in the meantime? [medical_form product_id="437" text="START YOUR MOUNJARO CONSULTATION TODAY" type="button"] Potential Side Effects of Mounjaro InjectionsGastrointestinal symptoms are the most common side effects of Mounjaro and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and indigestion. In rare cases, Mounjaro treatment can trigger serious health problems affecting the pancreas, kidneys, and gallbladder. People using Mounjaro also have a higher risk of hypoglycemia (very low blood sugar), especially if they also use anti-diabetic medications. The side effects of Mounjaro are typically mild to moderate and improve within days of treatment initiation and dose increases. Severe or persistent side effects may indicate a more serious medical issue and should be reported to a licensed clinician. When Do Mounjaro Side Effects Start? The gastrointestinal side effects of Mounjaro usually occur at the start of treatment and around dose increases. The exact timing of side effects varies between individuals, but some people may experience symptoms from the day of their first injection.  Mounjaro Day 1 Side EffectsGastrointestinal symptoms usually begin soon after people start using Mounjaro, and may even show up on day 1 of treatment. Nausea is the most common side effect of Mounjaro, affecting over 20% of users. Another frequent early side effect of Mounjaro is diarrhoea, which is reported in more than 16% of people using this medication.Mounjaro Week 2 Side EffectsThe side effects of Mounjaro usually flare up around the start of treatment and when the user increases their dose. They are reported to diminish over time, so by week 2 of treatment, many Mounjaro users will have noticed a significant improvement in their symptoms. Mounjaro Dose Increase Side EffectsMounjaro side effects are dose-dependent, and higher doses are associated with a greater incidence of gastrointestinal symptoms. As a result, most people will notice an upswing in side effects every four weeks when they increase their dose. However, these will fade with time as they do at the start of treatment. The Mounjaro dosage schedule is as follows:  Side Effects of Coming Off MounjaroThere are no reported withdrawal symptoms of coming off Mounjaro. However, people coming off weight loss injections typically experience increased hunger, as the appetite-suppressing effects of the drugs wear off. This can lead to weight regain in the absence of a calorie-controlled diet and regular exercise. The side effects of tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro) are comparable to those of other popular weight loss injections, like semaglutide (Wegovy). Therefore, people switching from Wegovy to Mounjaro (or vice versa) are unlikely to experience any new symptoms. If you want to switch from one weight loss medication to another, only do so under the guidance of a licensed clinician. {add_product_block(380)} How Long Do the Side Effects of Mounjaro LastThe side effects of Mounjaro are transient, meaning they typically occur at the start of treatment and during dose escalation, then decrease over time. Symptoms may last for days or weeks, but what can you expect in the short, medium, and long term?Mounjaro Short-Term Side EffectsGastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea are most common during the initial weeks of Mounjaro treatment. They begin soon after the first injection, and often flare up again during dose increases. Other short-term side effects of Mounjaro may include:IndigestionConstipationAbdominal painDecreased appetiteThese symptoms are usually mild to moderate and get better within days or weeks of starting treatment. However, severe or persistent vomiting and diarrhoea can lead to dehydration, so consult a healthcare professional if your condition doesn’t improve.Mounjaro Medium-Term Side EffectsMost of Mounjaro’s side effects taper off within days or weeks of starting treatment, and many people will have little or no symptoms in the medium term. However, it’s common for gastrointestinal problems to re-emerge every 4 weeks in coincidence with dose escalations. This is because the side effects of tirzepatide are dose-dependent, and often flare up at higher doses.Fortunately, research has demonstrated how gradual dose escalation can reduce the impact of Mounjaro’s side effects. Slowly increasing your dosage in line with the approved schedule can make gastrointestinal symptoms more tolerable, even at higher doses. Many people who have reached the maintenance (i.e., highest possible) dose of Mounjaro find their symptoms fade completely after a while. {add_product_block(437)} Mounjaro Long-Term Side EffectsThe majority of Mounjaro’s side effects are temporary and primarily affect the gastrointestinal system. However, in rare cases, weight loss injections can lead to more serious long-term health complications. These are thought to affect under 1% of people using Mounjaro, and may include:GallstonesInflammation of the gallbladderPancreatitisSevere hypoglycemiaSerious medical complications are often associated with other risk factors. For example, people who use anti-diabetic medications (like sulfonylureas or insulin) alongside Mounjaro are more likely to develop hypoglycemia. People who use tobacco and those with a history of gallbladder disease or acute pancreatitis are more likely to develop pancreatitis on Mounjaro. If you experience severe or persistent side effects on Mounjaro, seek the advice of a licensed clinician. How to Deal with Mounjaro Side EffectsThe most common side effects of Mounjaro are gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. These are usually mild to moderate and short-lived, but can be uncomfortable to live with.
Fortunately, there are measures you can take to manage the side effects of Mounjaro. For example, you may be able to minimise nausea and vomiting by:Eating slowly and only when hungryEating small portionsAvoiding lying down after eatingAvoiding physical activity after eatingNot eating too close to bedtimeOptimising your diet for Mounjaro treatment may also help to counteract gastrointestinal symptoms. Choose easily digestible, low-fat foods and sip water and other clear fluids throughout the day. Foods to avoid on Mounjaro include:Spicy foodsSugary foodsFoods high in fatDressingsCanned foods  Diarrhoea is another common side effect of Mounjaro, and may be alleviated by:Temporarily avoiding high-fibre foods (like grains, nuts, seeds, pulses, vegetables and fruits with the skin on)Increasing hydration with water and other clear drinksAvoiding dairy products, coffee, and alcoholIf your side effects are severe, persistent, or uncomfortable despite taking measures to improve them at home, contact a healthcare professional for guidance. Clinicians may recommend over-the-counter remedies or advise those with troublesome side effects to take a lower dose of Mounjaro.Frequently Asked QuestionsThe decision to use weight loss injections requires careful consideration, and you may still have questions about their potential side effects. Common topics of discussion around these medications include other possible side effects, injection site reactions, and when to seek medical advice. Is Fatigue a Side Effect of Mounjaro?Fatigue is not officially listed as a side effect of Mounjaro. Regardless, you may have heard people say they feel unusually tired on weight loss injections, and one clinical study reported that 5% of participants experienced fatigue during tirzepatide treatment.Feeling tired from weight loss injections is likely due to a significantly reduced calorie intake. Fortunately, substantial weight loss is often accompanied by increased energy levels, particularly among individuals who regularly engage in exercise. How Long Do Injection Site Reactions Last?Injection site reactions are a common occurrence among people using weight loss injections. They typically involve redness, pain, itching, swelling, or warmth in the area you have injected Mounjaro. These reactions are thought to be dose-dependent and are more common among people using higher doses of Mounjaro (10 mg or 15 mg). Injection site reactions are usually mild or moderate in severity and may resolve themselves within days. However, people’s experiences vary, and some skin irritation may persist for a few weeks. When Should I Seek Medical Care For Mounjaro Side Effects? Most of the side effects of Mounjaro are mild to moderate and get better with time. Sometimes, however, symptoms can be an early warning sign of a deeper medical problem and should be addressed by a healthcare professional. You should contact a licensed clinician if your side effects are severe or if they don’t get better within a few days. This is also true for gastrointestinal symptoms, as persistent vomiting and diarrhoea can lead to dehydration and other health complications.  Effective Weight Loss Support You Can Rely UponIf you’re considering adding Mounjaro or another treatment to your weight loss regimen, you’ll likely want as much information as possible about how it works and its potential impact on your body. Weight loss injections: Ozempic vs. Mounjaro

When it comes to weight loss solutions, two medications often come up in conversation: Ozempic and Mounjaro. Both have received considerable attention for their potential to help people shed pounds, so how do you determine which one to choose? In this article, we delve into the ins and outs of Mounjaro vs Ozempic, exploring the similarities, differences, side effects, costs, and, most importantly, which one is the right option for weight loss.Ready to make an informed decision on your weight loss journey? Keep reading to discover everything you need to know about Mounjaro and Ozempic.  [medical_form product_id="437" text="START YOUR MOUNJARO CONSULTATION TODAY" type="button"] What are Ozempic and Mounjaro?Ozempic and Mounjaro are both weekly injectable pens that belong to a group of medications called glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, which means they bind to GLP-1 receptors and mimic their actions. By doing so, Mounjaro and Ozempic regulate blood sugar levels, reduce your appetite, and slow the transit of food through your stomach. These effects are linked to weight loss.Mounjaro also binds to gastric inhibitory peptide (GIP) receptors, making it a dual agonist, which enhances its effectiveness for both weight management and type 2 diabetes. While both drugs regulate blood glucose levels and appetite, they differ in their active ingredients, composition, dose, and intended purposes. What is the Difference Between Ozempic and Mounjaro? When comparing Mounjaro and Ozempic, it is essential to gain a well-rounded understanding, including the differences between the two medications. In doing so, you’ll select the right one for you and benefit from its effectiveness. Let’s explore some of the key differences between these two self-injectable pens.  Active IngredientsA key difference between the two is their active ingredients. Ozempic contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as Wegovy, which works by mimicking the actions of the hormone GLP-1 to regulate your blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin production, suppressing your appetite, and increasing the feeling of fullness.Mounjaro, on the other hand, contains a dual agonist called tirzepatide, which acts on both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors, offering more substantial appetite suppression effects than semaglutide.LicensingMounjaro is licensed both as a treatment option for type 2 diabetes and weight management, making it a versatile choice for people looking for assistance when losing weight and for those struggling with both obesity and diabetes. Ozempic, while effective for weight loss, is only officially licensed for the management of diabetes. Although it used to be prescribed off-label for people seeking to lose weight, this practice has largely stopped. Instead, we recommend Wegovy as a more suitable option for a semaglutide-containing weight loss injection. ManufacturerThe manufacturers of Mounjaro and Ozempic are different. Eli Lilly, a US company, manufactures Mounjaro, and Novo Nordisk, a Danish company, produces Ozempic.  {add_product_block(437)} Dosage ScheduleBecause Ozempic and Mounjaro contain different active ingredients, their dosage schedules differ even though they are both injected once weekly. The Ozempic schedule begins with the lowest dose of 0.25 mg per week for four weeks, then gradually increases until you reach the maximum strength of 2 mg, as shown below:  Mounjaro, on the other hand, starts at a low 2.5 mg dose and increases every four weeks, usually over 21 weeks, until you reach the maximum maintenance dose – the most potent amount for weight loss – of 15 mg.   Mounjaro and Ozempic SimilaritiesWhile Mounjaro and Ozempic have their differences, they also share several key similarities that contribute to their effectiveness for weight loss and blood sugar control. For example, both are self-injected, belong to the same drug class, and share a similar side effect profile. Ozempic and Mounjaro share the following likenesses:Both are available for type 2 diabetes: Mounjaro and Ozempic are available to manage very high blood sugar levels, but only Mounjaro is licensed for weight loss. Route of administration: Both Mounjaro and Ozempic are administered subcutaneously, meaning they are injected into the layer of tissue just below the skin. They are also available in pre-filled, multi-dose pens, so there’s no complicated drawing-up method; simply select your dose and inject.Injection site: You can inject Mounjaro or Ozempic into three main sites in the body:Abdomen: So long as it is at least 2 inches away from your belly button.Thigh: Either thigh can be used, and dividing each into two means you can rotate the injection site each week.Upper arm: This is a generally good location for someone to assist with your injection, as it is easily accessible.Steady titration: Although they contain different active ingredients and follow a specific dosing schedule, each injection is slowly titrated to allow your body to become accustomed to its respective active ingredient, thereby reducing the likelihood of side effects.Requires a prescription: Neither Mounjaro nor Ozempic is available over the counter for weight loss or diabetes; therefore, you will need to consult with your doctor or a clinician from an online pharmacy, such as Prescription Doctor, to obtain a prescription. This ensures that you are eligible for the medicine and that it is safe and suitable for you to use. Ozempic vs Mounjaro Side EffectsAll medications can cause side effects, and Ozempic and Mounjaro are no exception. Because of the way they work, both semaglutide and tirzepatide can cause similar adverse events. The following are the most common:Feeling or being sickConstipationDiarrhoeaStomach pain or discomfortWeakness or tirednessHeadachesFor many people, these side effects are usually mild and improve as your body adjusts to the injection. Some people find that they return to their original dose after increasing it, only to settle down again. If you are concerned about any side effects from Mounjaro or Ozempic, please contact your clinician for further advice. Mounjaro vs Ozempic Dose ConversionThe dosage schedules for Mounjaro vs Ozempic are similar in that each dose is taken for four weeks before being increased if it has been well tolerated. However, because each injection contains a different active ingredient, the amount required to be effective is different.Ozempic starts at 0.25 mg, before doubling every four weeks until you reach the most potent strength of 2 mg per week. All being well, this is the amount you will stick to for effective diabetes management.Mounjaro starts with a 2.5 mg weekly dose, and increases by 2.5 mg every four weeks until you reach 15 mg or a lower, well-tolerated and effective strength for you.Ozempic to Mounjaro Dose Conversion ChartThe dosage schedules for Mounjaro and Ozempic vary slightly, and it is essential to understand this difference, especially if you are considering switching weight loss medications. Here is a quick reference guide to help you navigate these conversions: MonthMounjaro (mg/week)Ozempic (mg/week)12.50.25250.537.514102512.5N/A615N/AMounjaro vs Ozempic Cost ComparisonCost can be a contributing factor when deciding which injection is best for weight loss. Since Mounjaro is the only medication of the two approved for weight loss purposes, we will compare the prices of Mounjaro and Wegovy instead. At Prescription Doctor, we believe finding the right medication to lose weight needn’t be stressful. So, here is a side-by-side comparison of what you can expect to pay for Mounjaro or Wegovy when you choose to purchase from us: DoseMounjaro WegovyStarting dose£169.99£109.99Dose 2 £199.99£119.99Dose 3£249.99£139.99Dose 4£279.99£164.99Dose 5£289.99£184.99Maximum maintenance dose£298.99£249.99
The cost of Moujaro and Wegovy varies. Although the starting dose of Wegovy is slightly lower, the maximum strength of Mounjaro is more affordable. If cost is a factor when deciding which treatment is best for you, understanding the price differences before committing to treatment can help you make an informed decision that suits your situation and budget. Ozempic vs Mounjaro for Weight Loss: Which is Best?Although both semaglutide and tirzepatide can produce impressive weight loss results, Mounjaro is the most effective, primarily due to its dual action. One study has demonstrated that at 15 mg per week over  72 weeks, Mounjaro resulted in an average weight reduction of 21%, with at least 91% of people losing at least 5% of their initial body weight. Lower doses also resulted in significant results, with 85% and 89% achieving at least a 5% loss with the 5mg and 20mg doses, respectively. While Ozempic is not approved for weight loss, its active ingredient, semaglutide, is approved under the brand name Wegovy for this purpose. Clinical trials have demonstrated that Wegovy, at its 2.4 mg strength, can result in an average weight loss of 15% over a 68-week period. However, people prescribed Ozempic for type 2 diabetes have also reported up to a 7kg weight loss with 2mg per week. When it comes to distinguishing between Ozempic vs Mounjaro for weight loss, Mounjaro is the winner, not least because it is the only one of the two which is specifically recommended to help you lose weight. Yet, even when compared to Wegovy, Mounjaro comes out on top with clinical trials showing that tirzepatide is more likely to help people achieve substantial weight loss compared to semaglutide.   {add_product_block(437)} Are Alternative Products Available? If Mounjaro doesn’t feel like the right option for you, and you don't want to try Wegovy, there are other weight loss treatments available. These are available either as injectable pens or in tablet form. At Prescription Doctor, we stock the following treatments as alternatives to Mounjaro and Wegovy:Nevolat is a generic version of liraglutide, formerly known as Saxenda, and is a more affordable alternative to branded treatments. It can result in an average weight loss of 8% at its maximum dose. However, one key difference is that it is administered daily rather than weekly. Xenical blocks the absorption of fat, allowing it to be excreted from the body as waste. It is also available in its generic form, Orlistat. Mysimba acts on the reward centres of the brain to suppress your appetite. Alli is an over-the-counter version of orlistat. It works in the same way as Xenical and can block up to 25% of the fat you eat daily.Mounjaro vs Ozempic FAQsWith so much information to consider, it’s natural to have questions about Mounjaro vs Ozempic for weight loss. Here, we’ve addressed some of the most frequently asked questions to help clear up any confusion and provide you with all the details you need to make an informed choice. Can I Switch from Ozempic to Mounjaro?Yes, switching from Ozempic to Mounjaro for weight loss is possible, but it should be done under the guidance of a healthcare professional. You will need to start with Mounjaro’s lowest dose, even if you have reached the maximum Ozempic strength and have tolerated it well. That’s because they have different active ingredients, and you will need to give your body time to adjust to them. You’ll also need to wait at least 5 weeks after your last Ozempic injection before starting Mounjaro, to allow semaglutide to leave your system entirely. If you are considering switching, our clinicians are available to provide you with all the support you need during your transition to a new medication. Can I Take Mounjaro and Ozempic Together? No, because Mounjaro and Ozempic have a similar mechanism of action, you must not take them together. They both bind to GLP-1 receptors, so taking them at the same time is likely to result in side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.Specialist Weight Loss Solutions from Prescription DoctorWhen it comes to choosing the right weight loss solution, ordering from a trusted provider like Prescription Doctor ensures you receive all of the guidance and care you need for successful treatment. How Much Weight Can You Lose in a Month With Mounjaro?

When it comes to weight loss, Mounjaro is one of the most popular and effective treatments available. In clinical trials, its active ingredient, tirzepatide, can help people shed up to 22.5% of their starting body weight. However, for many people considering embarking on their Mounjaro journey, understanding how the weight loss injection can help them within the first month and beyond is equally important as the end result. So, if you’re wondering, “How much weight can you lose in a month with Mounjaro?”, look no further than this dedicated guide. We’ll delve into what your first four weeks on the medication could look like, how the treatment works, and answer some of the most frequently asked questions to help you make a more informed decision about whether Mounjaro is right for you. [medical_form product_id="437" text="START YOUR MOUNJARO CONSULTATION TODAY" type="button"]Is Mounjaro Effective for Weight Loss?Unlike most weight loss injections, Mounjaro works by mimicking two digestive hormones within the body, known as gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Meanwhile, treatments like Wegovy and Nevolat only focus on GLP-1. It’s this dual action of Mounjaro that makes it the most effective medication of its kind to date.Clinical trials have supported this finding, with one reporting that 42% of Mounjaro users achieved at least a 15% weight reduction after one year, compared to 18% of Wegovy users. Meanwhile, another study compared the impact of tirzepatide (Mounjaro), semaglutide (Wegovy), and liraglutide (Nevolat), with the average weight loss for each treatment being:5% for liraglutide12% for semaglutide18% for tirzepatideWhile clinical data is all well and good, if you’re thinking about taking Mounjaro, you’ll likely want to see some real-world examples of how effective the medication can be. Well, look no further than these impressive before-and-after stories, or genuine reviews from our customers. We’re sure that all of this combined will show you just how effective Mounjaro can be.    Mounjaro: How it Works for Weight LossMounjaro’s active ingredient, tirzepatide, supports weight loss by binding to the body’s GLP-1 and GIP receptors. In doing so, it helps to:Suppress your appetiteReduce food cravingsSlow down stomach emptyingRegulate blood sugar levelsMounjaro is most effective when it is paired with a diet plan and exercise programme. Although Mounjaro reduces appetite and regulates how your body processes food, incorporating a balanced diet alongside physical activity maximises Mounjaro’s weight loss potential and boosts your overall wellbeing.  So, now that we’ve covered how effective the treatment is and how it works, what could your first few weeks on the medication look like? Just how much weight can you lose in a month with Mounjaro? Let’s take a look. How Much Weight Can You Lose in a Month with Mounjaro?Mounjaro gets to work after your first injection, with some people noticing changes in appetite within a few days. Weight loss at this early stage will usually be minimal, though you could start to see subtle changes within the first month. To give yourself the best chances of success at this time, it’s important that you make lasting lifestyle changes and stick to the dosage schedule as closely as possible. It’s important to remember, however, that everyone’s journey is unique. If you’re feeling that it’s taking you longer to spot the stages of weight loss or are concerned that the medication may not be working for you, it’s important not to worry. Focus instead on the little things, such as increased energy levels, your clothes becoming baggier, or enhanced motivation. All of these can serve as useful tools to keep you on track. With this in mind, let’s take a look at what one month on Mounjaro might look like and how much weight you could lose.  {add_product_block(437)}Mounjaro First Week Weight LossMounjaro is intended to be a long-term solution rather than a miracle cure, so it’s unlikely that you’ll notice any significant weight changes in this first week. That being said, studies have shown you could lose around 1% of your body weight each week during the first month. This is not guaranteed and will vary from person to person.  Instead of focusing on weight loss during the first week, it’s a good idea to establish the foundations of your treatment routine. Mounjaro is most effective when taken on the same day and at the same time, so it’s important to create a schedule you can stick to. If you’re wondering about the best time to take Mounjaro, our dedicated guide can help.Your first dose is also a good opportunity to monitor how your body responds to tirzepatide and note any side effects you experience, such as nausea, diarrhoea, or constipation. These factors may influence your decision on when to take Mounjaro moving forward. Some people, for example, prefer taking it first thing in the morning to monitor the effects, while others opt for the evening to sleep through them.During this week, you may also start to make some changes to your lifestyle, including your diet and activity levels. If you’re wondering what you should eat on Mounjaro and the types of food to avoid, we’re here to help. Second Week on Mounjaro: What to ExpectAfter your second shot of 2.5 mg – Mounjaro’s lowest dose – it’s crucial to continue monitoring any side effects you might be experiencing. Most mild effects will improve as your body gets used to tirzepatide and can be managed at home in the following ways:Feeling or being sick or having diarrhoea: Eat smaller, more frequent meals, try eating plain foods like rice or toast, and avoid greasy, fatty, and spicy meals. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.Headaches: Drink plenty of water and consider taking over-the-counter painkillers, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.Constipation: Increase the amount of fibre in your diet and drink plenty of water to help bulk up your stools. Speak to your clinician or pharmacist about over-the-counter constipation remedies.Injection site reactions: Rotate your injection site each week to limit irritation. Use our detailed guides to learn how to use Mounjaro and where to administer it.  Weight loss during week 2 is still unlikely to be significant. Remember, you’re only expected to have dropped around 2% of your body weight at this point, if that. You may instead notice that your appetite is reducing, you’re experiencing fewer cravings, and you are starting to feel fuller for longer,  so draw upon these positives as you move into week 3. Mounjaro Third Week ResultsYour third week on Mounjaro could yield a 3% total drop from your starting body weight. However, the real results lie with the impact the treatment has on your body now that medication levels are stabilising. Side effects should have subsided, and you’re likely to find it easier to follow your diet and exercise regimen.Even if you’re not feeling hungry, it's important to continue eating and maintaining your calorie deficit so you don’t risk nutritional deficiencies. You may also want to consider adding vitamins and supplements to your routine. Average Weight Loss on Mounjaro: First Month ResultsBy week 4 of Mounjaro, it’s possible that you could have lost an average of 4% of your starting body weight. However, your actual result will depend on several factors, such as how well you’re following your diet and exercise plan and whether the medication is suitable for you.At this point, you should also have a good idea of how well your body is tolerating Mounjaro and whether you’re ready to move up to the next dose. If you have any concerns or queries, it’s a good idea to speak to your clinician before increasing your dosage.   What are the Long-Term Effects of Mounjaro?Mounjaro isn’t a quick-fix solution and is intended for long-term use to help you initiate and then maintain weight loss. Clinical trials have investigated the effects of Mounjaro over 2 years and found that weight loss plateaued after around one year but was maintained for 18 months to 2 years. It also found that tirzepatide is both well-tolerated and has a safety profile that is similar to other GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Wegovy and Nevolat.Although in the first 4 weeks, weight loss may not be so noticeable, Mounjaro weight loss after 3 months should be more significant, with some studies reporting an average 8% weight reduction on the 5, 10, or 15mg dose. Don’t worry if you’ve lost more or less at this point; these are just averages, and your weight loss journey will be unique to you. However, in most cases, if you haven’t achieved at least a 5% weight reduction in 12 weeks, your clinician may tell you to stop taking Mounjaro and recommend an alternative weight loss treatment. That’s because it’s unlikely to be beneficial for you if you haven’t seen any progress so far.Mounjaro weight loss will take time, and it is important to be patient with yourself and the medication. Our week-by-week weight loss guide can help you track what to expect as you begin your journey, adjust your doses, and determine if you’re on target to meet your weight loss goals. What Can Impact Weight Loss on Mounjaro?Mounjaro is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to losing weight; you’ll need to pair it with a healthy lifestyle to achieve its full benefits. However, if you are not losing as much weight as you would like on Mounjaro, then there could be several reasons for this, including:You need more time: Patience is key, especially when you first start a new treatment. It can take up to 12 weeks to lose 5% of your starting body weight, so it is important to give Mounjaro sufficient time to show results. You haven’t reached the maintenance dose yet: If you follow the Mounjaro dosage guide correctly, it can take 21 weeks to reach the maximum 15 mg dose. This is the strength that is associated with the greatest average weight loss. You’re not in a calorie deficit: A key factor for losing weight is maintaining a calorie deficit. That is, eating fewer calories than you burn.Other medications could be hindering weight loss: Having other health conditions or taking other medications can impact your ability to lose weight. You need to exercise more: The more you move, the more energy you will burn, and the more likely you will be in a calorie deficit.  Frequently Asked QuestionsWhether you’re just starting out on Mounjaro or you’re weighing up your options, perhaps even deciding which is better, Mounjaro vs Wegovy, you’re bound to have some unanswered questions.
