How to help dry skin in winter

how to help dry skin in winter

If you're like many of us, you've been cranking up the heat to stay warm during this cold snap. But did you know that high central heating can actually cause a range of skin problems?

Central heating, particularly hot air, dries out the air, causing the skin to lose moisture. This can leave the skin feeling dry, and it may become red, flaky, and irritated, making it prone to various conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.

What can you do to protect your skin during this cold weather?

Avoid long, hot showers or baths

Avoid long hot showers or baths, as this will further strip your skin of moisture. Instead, try shorter showers or baths in cool or lukewarm water.

Use a humidifier

Use a humidifier in your home to help add moisture back into the air.

Choose gentle cleansers and soaps

Choose gentle cleansers and soaps that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Look for products that are labelled "oil-free" or "non-comedogenic."

Apply a good-quality moisturiser

Apply a good quality moisturiser to your skin every day, preferably one that contains ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin, which can help attract and retain moisture.

By following these simple tips, you can help keep your skin healthy and hydrated throughout the winter.
