Calpol Six Plus contains a small dose of a common painkiller called paracetamol - 250mg per 5ml.
While the exact mechanism of paracetamol is not fully understood, paracetamol is effective at relieving mild pain, such as tension headaches and earache, and reducing fevers which often occur during bouts of the flu.
The recommended dosage of Calpol Six Plus depends upon the age of the child.
Calpol Six Plus should not be given to children under 6 years old. If your child is under 6, Calpol Infant may be more suitable. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Before giving Calpol to your child, make sure to shake the bottle for 10 seconds before measuring out the required dose.
Use a measuring spoon or syringe to administer the right dose of Calpol Six Plus suspension. Using a kitchen spoon may result in too high or too low of a dose.
If you are using Sachets, massage the sachet to mix the medicine before administering it to your child.
Do not give your child this medicine for more than 3 days without first consulting your doctor for advice.
Every medicine carries the potential of causing side effects, though not everybody experiences them. It is important to understand the risks associated with your medicine and to remain vigilant of any changes you notice.
Paracetamol is typically well tolerated and does not usually cause side effects.

Do not give Calpol Six Plus to your child if they are allergic to paracetamol, fructose or any of the other excipients of this medicine.
If you notice any signs of an allergic reaction, cease treatment with Calpol Six Plus and seek emergency medical attention immediately by going straight to the nearest accident and emergency department.

Calpol Six Plus can be taken during pregnancy. Take the lowest possible dose to reduce the pain or fever you are experiencing. Do not use for more than 3 days.
Speak to your pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
Calpol Six Plus contains paracetamol and should not be taken alongside other products which contain paracetamol. Prolonged use of paracetamol can cause serious damage to the liver and kidneys.
Calpol Six Plus contains fructose which some children might be allergic to. Speak to your doctor if you are unsure about whether to give your child Calpol.
Do not store Calpol Six Plus above 25°C.
Do not give Calpol Six Plus to your child past the expiry date printed on the label. The date refers to the last day of that month.
Never throw away unwanted or expired medicine via household or water waste. Take any unwanted or expired medicine to your local pharmacy and ask them to dispose of it safely on your behalf.
Always keep medicine out of the sight and reach from children and pets.
If you forget to give your child Calpol, administer a dose as soon as you remember.
Do not give your child more Calpol to make up for the dose you missed.
If you accidentally give your child more than the recommended amount of Calpol, speak to your doctor immediately or take your child straight to the casualty department of your nearest hospital.
Adults can take Calpol Six Plus, however it may not be as effective as paracetamol products formulated for adults.
If your child does not improve or if their condition becomes worse after taking Calpol, speak to your doctor immediately.
