What is Duraphat 5000 Toothpaste Used For?

Duraphat 5000 is a concentrated form of toothpaste containing a higher level of fluoride than ordinary toothpaste. The fluoride helps to reduce tooth decay and promotes healthy teeth and gums.  It is used by adults and children over 16 years old at risk of tooth decay.

Tooth decay is also known as dental caries and occurs when dental plaque turns sugars into acid, causing damage to the tooth. If plaque starts to build up, it can lead to other problems, such as holes in the teeth (cavities) and gum disease.

Tooth decay can happen at any age due to poor diet or dental hygiene. As well as tooth decay, poor oral hygiene can lead to other issues, such as discolouration of the teeth and physical pain from toothache.

Brushing your teeth daily with fluoride toothpaste is one of the most effective ways of preventing tooth decay.

For people at a higher risk of tooth decay, their dentist may prescribe stronger toothpaste such as Duraphat 2500 or Duraphat 5000.

To learn more about tooth decay, visit the NHS website.

How Does Duraphat 5000 work?

Colgate Duraphat Toothpaste is formulated with 5,000 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride, which protects your teeth from cavities by reinforcing the enamel on your teeth. Fluoride binds to the minerals in the saliva and starts to remineralize the tooth surfaces, making them more resistant to decay.

This helps protect the teeth from sugar acids and bacteria. When brushing with Colgate Duraphat Toothpaste, it also helps remove plaque on the tooth surfaces.

Once you start using Duraphat 5000, it will help prevent the spread of tooth decay by rebuilding the tooth's enamel.

It is essential to visit your dentist regularly so early tooth decay can be detected and treated as soon as possible.

  • Fluoride helps protect against cavities and tooth decay caused by acid attacks on your teeth.
  • Regular use of Colgate Duraphat 5000 helps strengthen teeth, promoting a healthy and confident smile.
  • It helps rebuild weakened areas of the enamel, promoting a more even, natural white colour to your teeth.
  • The toothpaste also helps reduce tooth sensitivity and prevents the build-up of plaque.

You can find a dentist near you by visiting the NHS and entering your postcode.

How Do I Use Duraphat 5000?

You should use Duraphat 5000 toothpaste as your dentist or doctor has prescribed. If you are unsure how to use this product, ask your dentist or doctor.

You should use Colgate Duraphat 5000 instead of your regular toothpaste and brush your teeth after every meal.

You can use a manual or electric toothbrush when using Duraphat 5000.

Gently squeeze a 2 cm ribbon onto your toothbrush, which provides between 3 mg and 5 mg of fluoride.

Brush your teeth evenly in a vertical motion, from the gum to the tip of the tooth, for approximately 3 minutes. Make sure to spit out excess foam.

Do not swallow the foam or the toothpaste.

Once you have used the toothpaste, replace the cap and store the toothpaste away from children.
