What is Aldara Cream used for?

Aldara cream is used to treat genital warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Aldara is licensed to treat genital warts in both men and women.

Following a brief online consultation, you can obtain a private prescription for Aldara online through our UK prescription service.

We offer a fast, next-day delivery service to ensure you get your treatment as soon as possible. All items are packaged discreetly to maintain your privacy.

How does HPV cause genital warts?

HPV infects a host cell within the skin and causes it to divide, resulting in the formation of a second identical cell that also contains the virus. These infected cells continue to divide and create a wart. Other infected cells nearby can maintain the wart by replacing dead cells with copies of themselves.

While other treatments inhibit the cell's ability to divide, thereby providing the immune system with a better chance of fighting the virus, the active ingredient in Aldara (Imiquimod) binds to skin cells. It stimulates the production of cytokines, which in turn inhibit the cell's ability to reproduce.

When an infected cell dies, it is not replaced with another infected cell. Instead, a healthy cell takes its place. Over time, the tissue of the warts breaks down, and they are eventually eradicated from the skin's surface.

What formulations are available?

Aldara contains a 5% formulation of Imiquimod and is available in sachets.

To buy Aldara online, complete our brief questionnaire, and we'll take care of the rest.

We also offer a more affordable generic treatment in the form of Imiquimod 5% cream. The generic treatment works in the same way as Aldara.

One of our online doctors can determine which formulation is most suitable for you.

How to get rid of genital warts?

Genital warts are a visible symptom of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV.) It's the second most common STI in the UK after chlamydia. There are more than 100 different strains of HPV, around 30 of which affect the genitals. Types 6 and 11 are responsible for most warts. In fact, these two strains account for around 90% of all cases of genital warts.HPV is usually passed on by vaginal, anal, or oral sex. It's also spread via non-penetrative genital-to-genital contact and the sharing of sex toys.Genital warts appear as small, fleshy growths that are either a pinkish or dark red colour. They're commonly found on or around the genitals or anus, although they can also be present internally. Alternatively, they can show up on the upper thigh area.Small, single warts can be quite hard to spot at first. In other cases, they manifest in small clusters of three or four, creating a kind of cauliflower effect on the skin's surface. What are the symptoms of genital warts?Warts are often symptomless. However, they can be unsightly, leading to feelings of embarrassment and anxiety, especially when it comes to starting a new intimate relationship or explaining them to your current partner. It's essential to remember that warts can remain dormant for months or even years. Finding a wart could lead to some very challenging conversations between partners, but its appearance is not a sure sign of any recent infidelities. You may also experience bleeding, itching, irritation, skin discolouration, as well as changes to the flow of your urine. Are genital warts dangerous? Most genital warts pose no serious long-term health risks, and there's zero evidence that they affect fertility. However, some strains of HPV cause cell changes, which may lead to cervical cancer. There's a vaccination programme that protects against more of these dangerous strains. It also reduces the chances of developing less harmful types of genital warts. Speak to your GP or a sexual health nurse for more information on the vaccine.HPV is very infectious. Intimate skin-on-skin contact is enough to transmit the infection, and even condoms won't offer full protection to you or your partner. The virus is not passed on by hugging, kissing, or sharing everyday objects, such as cutlery, towels, or toilet seats. How to get rid of genital warts?Although your GP can diagnose genital warts, they'll probably refer you to an STI clinic, so it's best to contact them directly. Many offer walk-in services, meaning there's a good chance you'll get seen within a few days. All services are completely confidential.A nurse will take a look at the warts and then ask a few questions about symptoms and your recent sexual history. Depending on the location of the warts, an internal examination may be necessary.Let them know if you're pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant, as this may affect what kind of treatment they can recommend.Once diagnosed, your treatment options include:Creams: You can usually apply the cream yourself until the warts disappear. You may need a few follow-up appointments.Freezing: Liquid nitrogen is applied to the warts over the course of a few weeks. Warts begin to blister, crust up, and then eventually fall off. Freezing can cause irritation.Surgery: A doctor or nurse can use a scalpel, laser, or other methods to remove warts. Again, this can irritate and potentially lead to permanent scarring.Creams and lotions are usually enough for softer warts, but hard or rough clusters will likely require freezing or surgery. You can buy treatment for genital warts online from Prescription Doctor. We package all items in 2 layers of packaging to obfuscate their contents and ensure your privacy. It may take several months of treatment to eliminate warts. This can be a stressful time for you and your partner, but please stay patient and follow your doctor's advice. It's best to abstain from any sexual activity until the warts disappear completely. This reduces the chances of passing them on, and it may also speed up your recovery time. You should never be embarrassed about visiting your GP or a sexual health clinic. Genital warts are usually symptomless and can often clear up on their own without treatment. However, there's always a chance they could grow or multiply, leading to further health complications.Do genital warts come back? There's no cure for HPV. But once the warts are treated, the body can clear the underlying infection within a few months. In some cases, warts reappear months or sometimes even years later. If this happens to you, go back to your GP or an STI clinic.

Where can I buy Imiquimod cream online?

Imiquimod cream has many uses, including the treatment of genital warts. Genital warts are a sexually transmitted infection – also known as an STI – which can be contracted from penetrative or oral sex, and they usually take the form of painless lumps around your genitals or anus. Genital warts are caused by a viral skin infection known as human papillomavirus (HPV), a group of over 100 viruses that can affect various parts of the body. In most cases, genital warts are caused by two specific types of HPV, which aren’t linked to genital or cervical cancer. While there’s no cure for genital warts, when properly treated, the body can keep them under control. Unfortunately, there can still be a stigma around conditions such as STIs, which is why some people choose to look for genital wart treatments online. How imiquimod cream worksWhen you apply imiquimod cream, it causes inflammation to your skin, which encourages your body’s immune system to release chemicals called cytokines. This means that your body begins to fight the infection over time. Unfortunately, it also means the area in which it’s applied will become red and sore, which usually settles within two weeks. It’s also common to notice side effects such as cracked, peeling, or weeping skin. While this is normal, if it becomes unbearably uncomfortable, you may need to speak with your doctor. While imiquimod cream has been shown to be effective in treating outbreaks of genital warts, it’s not a cure for the condition. However, it can help outbreaks of warts disappear more quickly. If left untreated, genital warts can eventually go away on their own, which can take up to two years, but the outbreak can also get worse, which is why many people choose to buy imiquimod cream online to manage the infection.Using imiquimod creamImiquimod cream is typically applied at night and washed off upon waking in the morning. Apply a small amount to the clean, dried area, leaving a margin of about 1 cm around the warts on the healthy skin. This ensures that the affected area is well covered. If possible, the area should be left uncovered once the cream is applied, and no creams or moisturisers should be used. You can use a mild moisturiser eight hours after application or in the weeks following treatment, but ensure there’s nothing left on your skin when you reapply the imiquimod cream. Once you've applied the cream, you should wash your hands thoroughly.Your doctor will instruct you on how long to apply the cream, which will help you determine the correct amount of imiquimod cream to purchase. They’ll usually recommend applications three times a week, allowing for days off in between to allow your skin to recover. Imiquimod cream comes in small sachets for easy application.Imiquimod cream can take several weeks to work, and according to the British Association of Dermatologists, it’s not effective in all cases of genital warts, but has a higher success rate than other treatments.Imiquimod cream side effectsImiquimod cream is designed to create inflammation, so localised swelling and redness can simply mean that it’s working. The area where it’s applied can change colour, flake, scab or crust over. Some users also notice that they develop cold symptoms such as sneezing, fatigue, a sore throat or congestion. If these side effects become more serious, it’s worth speaking to your prescribing doctor about your concerns. While using imiquimod cream, avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds, as this can increase your skin's vulnerability to sunburn. It’s also important to avoid unprotected sex, as you could pass on genital warts to others, and you are also at risk of other STIs.Imiquimod cream, buy onlineBuying imiquimod cream online can be a good option for those who are uncomfortable discussing their condition with their doctor. Prescription Doctor offers a confidential and discreet service, with prescriptions sent directly to your door in plain packaging. When you submit your details online, it’s essential to inform us about any other medications you’re taking, as this may make Imiquimod cream unsuitable for you. We’ll be happy to make suggestions based on your needs if this is the case. Imiquimod cream may not be suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and only small studies have been carried out, so if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, be sure to let your doctor know.If you are suffering from genital warts, then imiquimod cream may be helpful in treating external warts. Simply click ‘Quick Checkout’ and fill in our simple questions, so we can assess whether it’s the right choice for you. Your prescription will be dispensed by qualified, experienced pharmacists and delivered quickly to your home.
