What is Ezetimibe?

Ezetimibe is a treatment for high cholesterol, which causes a fatty deposit (lipid) to build up on the walls of the blood vessels.

Ezetimibe is also available under the brand name Ezetrol.

What is High Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a type of fat (lipid) that is made by your body and found in certain types of food. It is necessary for good health however; a high level of cholesterol can be harmful to you.

High cholesterol develops when a fatty substance called cholesterol, builds up in your blood vessels. If it is left untreated it can increase the risk of having a stroke and heart problems.

Along with taking medication like Ezetimibe, you can also help lower your cholesterol by making lifestyle changes. Regular exercise, dietary changes and stopping smoking, are all things your doctor will usually advise when taking Ezetimibe.

How Does Ezetimibe Work?

Ezetimibe works by reducing the cholesterol absorbed in your digestive system. Your doctor may have prescribed ezetimibe alongside a statin, which are a group of medicines that reduce the cholesterol your body makes by itself.

Before buying treatments for high cholesterol online, you should speak to your doctor for further advice on how you can lower your cholesterol by making appropriate lifestyle changes. Cholesterol lowering drugs, such as ezetimibe, are more effective when taken alongside a healthy diet low in saturated fats and triglycerides.

How do I take Ezetimibe?

Ezetimibe tablets are usually taken once daily. Swallow one tablet whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Try to take it around the same time every day to ensure you do not miss a dose.

You may need to continue taking cholesterol lowering drugs indefinitely. This is to prevent your cholesterol levels rising to dangerous levels again.

Always follow the directions on your prescription label and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anything that you do not understand.

It's always a good idea to read the safety information outlined in the patient information leaflet, which comes enclosed with your medicine, before taking your medicine.

If you experience any side effects, speak to your doctor.

Always store medicines out of the sight and reach of children and pets.
