Treatment Information

Full STI urine test (7-in-1)

More than 400,000 cases of sexually transmitted diseases are reported each year. It's important to know how common certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are to take appropriate steps to protect yourself. You should also regularly get screened if you are at risk of contracting certain STIs.

The 7-in-1 STI urine test kit tests for the following:

  1. Chlamydia
  2. Gardnerella vaginalis
  3. Gonorrhoea
  4. Herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2)
  5. Mycoplasma
  6. Trichomonas vaginalis
  7. Ureaplasma

The test cannot detect HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C or infections in the throat or anus. It may also not detect herpes unless you have symptoms of the virus at the time of testing.

The test kit contains everything you need to collect a sample, as well as a prepaid envelope for mailing it to our partner laboratory. For more information on using our home testing kits, including the STI urine test kits, please visit this link.

The best time to take the urine sample is first thing in the morning after waking up.

Once you've collected the required sample following the provided instructions, you can post it to our partner laboratory at your earliest convenience.

How reliable is the 7-in-1 STI urine test?

So long as you collected the sample as per the instructions provided, the reliability of the test should be the same as STI tests conducted at a GUM or sexual health clinic. The same testing methods used by GUM or sexual health clinics are used by our partner laboratory when analysing samples for the presence of an infection.

When should you be tested?

If you are sexually active but not in a monogamous relationship, it is recommended to be screened for STIs at least once a year. But you should also be tested between changing partners and, of course, if you are experiencing any symptoms associated with STIs.

Symptoms of common STIs include:

  • Irritated genitals
  • Pain when urinating
  • Penile discharge
  • Rectal discharge
  • Sores, lumps or growths around the genitals and anus
  • Testicular pain
  • Vaginal discharge

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, it is important to abstain from sex until a test can confirm you are clear of any STIs.

STIs may be asymptomatic in some people (show no symptoms), which means that the only way of knowing that you have an STI is by getting tested.

As different types of tests are better suited for detecting specific STIs, it’s essential to select the appropriate test for your particular situation. When placing an order for the desired test kit, our doctor will ask a series of questions to ensure you are selecting the correct test.

If left untreated, certain STIs can lead to further health complications, including infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, increased risk of contracting other STIs such as HIV or causing complications during pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancy and premature labour. If you suspect you have been infected with an STI, don't put off getting tested.

Be aware that getting tested too early for certain STIs can result in false negative results. If this is the case, you may be asked to take a second test a few weeks later for a more reliable result.

Frequently asked questions

How will I receive my test results?

Once our partner laboratory receives your sample, it should take approximately 2 days for your results to be ready. Your results will be made available through your online Prescription Doctor account. To protect your privacy, we will not send your results directly to you.

How will I know when my results are available?

We will notify you via email and text message that you have pending messages to view on your Prescription Doctor account.

What do I do if I test positive?

If you test positive for any of the STIs, one of our doctors will contact you with guidance on the next steps.

How do I get treatment for STIs?

We offer a selection of common treatments for a variety of STIs, including chlamydia, herpes, genital warts and gonorrhoea.

For bacterial infections, such as gonorrhoea and chlamydia, a short course of antibiotics can clear the infection in most cases.

While there is no cure for herpes, treatments are available to help manage symptoms, aiming to speed up the recovery of breakouts and prevent the virus from spreading to other parts of the body.
