What is DulcoEase?

  • Prevent and treat chronic constipation.
  • Soften the stools in people who have haemorrhoids (piles) or a tear in the lining of the anus (anal fissure) by reducing straining and helps to pass the stools easily.

If you are constipated, you should first try to make adjustments to your diet and lifestyle before considering a laxative. Changes can include:

  • Eating more fibre
  • Drinking more water
  • Exercising regularly
  • Going to the toilet at regular intervals

If you suspect that your constipation is brought on from a medicine you are taking, speak to your doctor. You should not stop taking a medicine your doctor has prescribed for you without explicit permission.

In the case where your constipation does not improve after making changes to your diet and lifestyle, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist. They will be able to discuss your condition with you, and inform you which treatments are safe for you, based upon your medical history.

How Does DulcoEase Work?

DulcoEase Capsules contain 100mgs of the active substance docusate sodium which belongs to the group of medicines called stool softeners. DulcoEase works in two ways to relieve constipation.

Firstly, docusate sodium breaks the surface tension of hard, dry faecal matter that has accumulated in the colon allowing it to absorb fat and water which softens the stool and make it more comfortable to pass.

Secondly, it stimulates the nerve endings present in the walls of the colon and rectum, causing the smooth muscles of the intestine to contract more often and with increased force. This helps the faecal matter to move through the colon to the rectum and emptying of the bowel.

This dual-action is effective to relieve constipation without straining. DulcoEase usually alleviates constipation in one to two days.

How do I take DulcoEase?

The recommended dose for adults or adolescents over 12 years of age is to start with 1 capsule and taking it to 3 capsules a day. If this is not effective, you can increase the dose up to five times a day. Once you start feeling the relief, you should take medicine less frequently.

Swallow the whole capsule with a glass of water. Do not chew or break open and empty the contents of the capsule. DulcoEase can be taken either with or without food.

Prolonged use of DulcoEase is not recommended. If you are still constipated after five days of treatment or need the laxative every day or have persistent abdominal pain, consult a doctor.

Always take DulcoEase as described in the leaflet or as your pharmacist or doctor has told you.
