Constipation occurs when faeces are too hard to pass naturally without a great deal of straining. Movicol softens the faeces allowing it to pass as usual. This medication contains added electrolytes (salts), such as potassium chloride and sodium chloride, which prevent dehydration.
While taking Movicol, it is important to drink plenty of water to ensure that you do not become dehydrated.

Movicol is to be taken as a liquid. It comes in the form of powder within individual sachets; each sachet is one dose.

If you forget one dose of Movicol, take one when you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, don’t take two doses – instead, wait until the usual time. Movicol is a medication that can be taken as and when needed, so no specific timings need to be adhered to, other than not taking more than two sachets in one hour.
Taking too much Movicol can result in diarrhoea, which in turn can result in dehydration. If this happens, drink plenty of fluids and seek advice from a doctor or pharmacist.
Alcohol should have no adverse effects on Movicol. However, it should be noted that it is wise to avoid alcohol if you are suffering from constipation.
Movicol will not impact your ability to drive or operate machinery.
Movicol can be taken for up to two weeks. If you still need Movicol after this time, you should seek advice from a doctor or pharmacist.
Movicol usually takes one to two days to work.
