What is Treclin, and how does it work?

If you're looking for effective acne treatment, Treclin Gel is worth considering. This prescription medication contains an antibiotic and a retinoid to reduce the appearance and symptoms of acne effectively.

Treclin works by limiting the growth of bacteria that cause acne, reducing sebum (oil) production and reducing inflammation. It's suitable for adults over the age of 18.

How long do you need to take Treclin?

Treclin Gel isn’t meant to be a long-term treatment. It should be used for no longer than 12 weeks. Acne symptoms should reduce after several weeks of regular treatment, but it’s possible that this may take up to 12 weeks for some.

It’s important to note that if your acne symptoms don’t reduce or clear up by this time, you should seek medical advice from your doctor. Also, if your acne worsens while taking Treclin Gel, discontinue immediately and seek medical advice.

How to use Treclin Gel

It’s best to use Treclin Gel before bed. Then, simply wash and dry your face. Once your skin is completely dry, apply a pea-sized amount of the gel once per day.

You should gently work the gel into the skin, and don’t rub.

How to store Treclin Gel

To ensure its effectiveness, it’s important to store Treclin Gel correctly. That means it should be stored at room temperature, never above 25 degrees. It should also never be frozen.

Remember to keep the tube tightly closed to ensure freshness. Always check the expiry date on the tube and never use the gel beyond that date. You will see the date after ‘EXP”.

You can use the gel safely until the last day of that month, then it must be discarded.

Once the tube is opened, do not use it for more than three months.

Treclin Gel side effects

While side effects are rare, they are possible in some cases. Most people do feel a slight burning or irritation on the skin when they start using the gel.

However, this should not be extreme. If it is, discontinue use. However, mild irritation is normal and should reduce and disappear as your body gets used to the gel.

The most common side effects of Treclin Gel are:

  • Dry skin
  • Skin irritation
  • Erythema (redness)
  • Skin peeling

It’s also possible that irritation may occur if you’re using too much of the gel.

For that reason, always stick to the recommended amount. If you are experiencing unwanted side effects, or they become severe, discontinue use and speak to your doctor. If you experience a severe allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling in the mouth or on the face, or a rash, go immediately to the A&E Department or call 999.
