What is Foundayo?

Foundayo (orforglipron) is an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist, part of a class of medicines that act on the natural hormones involved in hunger and metabolism. Stimulating these pathways helps you feel fuller for longer, eat less, and improve blood sugar control. Unlike most GLP-1 drugs (such as Mounjaro, Wegovy, and Nevolat), which require injections, Foundayo has been developed as a daily pill, offering a simpler option for people seeking medical support with weight loss. This makes Foundayo an alternative to the Wegovy pill, the first oral GLP-1 medication approved in the UK. 

Considered a promising treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes, Orforglipron (Foundayo) was approved by the MHRA for these purposes on August 10th 2026, making the UK the first in Europe to authorise the medication. This means that Foundayo should soon be available on private prescription.  

How Does Foundayo Work?

Foundayo is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist, which means it activates the same receptors in the body as the natural hormone GLP-1. GLP-1 is released in the gut after eating and plays an important role in coordinating how the body handles food and energy.

Depending on where GLP-1 binds to its receptors in the body, it increases insulin release in response to glucose, slows the rate at which food leaves your stomach (gastric emptying), and sends satiety signals (feeling full), helping to regulate appetite.

By activating the GLP-1 receptor, Foundayo may help patients:

• Feel full sooner and stay satisfied for longer
• Reduce cravings and naturally eat less
• Lose weight gradually, especially when combined with diet and exercise
• Improve blood sugar control, particularly helpful for people with type 2 diabetes

In simple terms, Foundayo works with your body’s natural appetite signals to help you eat less and lose weight sustainably.

How Long Does Foundayo Take to Work?

Weight loss is affected by a range of factors, including diet, exercise, and genetics. As such, the amount of time it takes for individuals taking Foundayo to begin losing weight (and the extent of the weight loss) varies from person to person. The prescribed medication dosage also influences the rate of weight loss.

Studies indicate that Foundayo has a mechanism of action similar to that of other GLP-1 agonists, such as Wegovy and Mounjaro. People who take these medications report reduced appetite and early signs of weight loss within 1-2 weeks. 

Foundayo Weight Loss Results 

Clinical trial results for orforglipron (the active medication in Foundayo) have been encouraging. In a 72-week Phase 3 study, participants taking the medication achieved an average weight loss of 12.4% at an investigational 36 mg dose, with just under 1 in 5 having a 20% or more reduction in body weight. Average weight loss ranged from 7.5% to 12.4%, depending on the dose. This is a meaningful reduction in total body weight.

A previous Phase 2 study reported weight loss ranging from 9.4% to 14.7%, depending on the dose, with participants losing between 6.9 kg and 13.0 kg by week 36 of treatment. The benefits of Foundayo went beyond weight, too, with improvements in cholesterol and blood pressure being recorded.

Further studies on Foundayo have reported improvements in long-term blood sugar levels (HbA1c).

While injectables may deliver slightly greater results, Foundayo’s strength lies in its convenient tablet form, offering patients an alternative to weekly injections. Though the results are promising, further trials are needed to confirm both the effectiveness and long-term safety of Foundayo.

How to Take Foundayo Tablets

Foundayo (orforglipron) is taken once daily, making it different to Mounjaro injections, which are administered weekly. The tablet can also be taken at any time of day with no food or water restrictions. This sets it apart from the Wegovy pill, which has to be taken after fasting for at least 8 hours and with no more than 120ml of plain water.

The pill should ideally be taken at the same time each day for consistency. Adherence is crucial, as missing doses may reduce its effectiveness. This potentially simpler way of taking GLP-1 medications could make it easier for patients to stick to the treatment schedule than injections. 

Foundayo Dosage Information

All GLP-1 agonist medications (including Foundayo) should be initiated with a dose-escalation regimen. This is to reduce the risk of unwanted side effects, such as nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.

The Foundayo (orforglipron) dosage schedule begins at 0.8 mg once daily. After at least 30 days, the dosage can be increased to the next strength, with a minimum of one month between titrations. The table below outlines the recommended schedule:

As with all GLP-1 treatments, dosage escalation is clinician-led to ensure that the product remains suitable for you to use. If you think you want to stay on a lower dose for longer, for example if you’re struggling with side effects, this may be possible if you seek medical advice beforehand. Never deviate from the recommended schedule on your own. 

What if You Forget to Take Foundayo

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. Do not double your next scheduled dose. The manufacturer recommends that if you miss 7 consecutive days of Foundayo, you should reinitiate dosage escalation at a lower dosage to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Always take Foundayo as prescribed by your doctor. Taking more Foundayo than prescribed may increase the risk of adverse effects.

What If I Take Too Many Foundayo Pills?

Seek immediate medical attention if you take more than the prescribed number of pills (or dose) of Foundayo. Due to the prolonged amount of time that Foundayo stays in the body, you may require an extended period of medical observation if you experience adverse effects from an overdose. 

Foundayo Side Effects and Cautions

Foundayo has the potential to cause side effects, either when combined with other treatments or by taking it alone. These adverse reactions can vary in severity and frequency, and some people may not experience any. Nevertheless, understanding the possibilities is crucial to making an informed decision about whether Foundayo weight loss pills could be suitable for your circumstances. 

Foundayo Pill Side Effects

Like other GLP-1 medicines, the most common side effects of Foundayo (orforglipron) are related to the stomach and digestion. In clinical studies, these symptoms were usually short-lived and most noticeable during dose increases. Side effects were more likely to occur at higher doses.

Foundayo and Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycaemia)

Foundayo may cause low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) when combined with other medicines or, in rarer cases, on its own. This adverse reaction can occur at different frequencies depending on the medication(s) you are currently taking.

• Very Common: When Foundayo (orforglipron) is used with insulin, with or without Metformin and/or sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) such as Forxiga and Jardiance
• Common: Can occur when Foundayo is taken with medicines that contain a sulfonylurea (such as Gliclazide) alone, or combined with up to two additional treatments for type 2 diabetes
• Uncommon: May happen when orforglipron is taken without insulin or a sulfonylurea

If you are already using insulin or sulfonylureas, your clinician may reduce your doses of these medicines before you start Foundayo.

Potential warning signs of low blood sugar could include:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Hunger
• Confusion
• Drowsiness 
• Confusion
• Sweating
• Fast heartbeat
• Irritability

Your doctor should advise you on how to treat low blood sugar if it occurs. 

How Long Do Foundayo Side Effects Last?

The most common side effects with Foundayo (orforglipron) are stomach-related, like nausea or sometimes vomiting. These tend to show up in the early weeks, especially when your dose is being increased. For most people, they’re mild to moderate and pass without causing any lasting issues.

Studies found that rates were highest in the first couple of weeks, then settled down. As your body gets used to the medicine, these effects usually become less frequent and less intense.

Foundayo Warnings and Interactions 

While Foundayo (orforglipron) is an effective weight loss pill, it may not be suitable for everyone. The treatment can interact with other medicines or supplements you may be taking, or not be compatible with certain medical conditions. You should therefore be clear about all precautions associated with Foundayo before you start treatment and speak to your clinician if you’re ever unsure about anything.

Foundayo should not be used if you are allergic to orforglipron or any of the other ingredients listed in the Patient Information Leaflet. If you’re unsure about whether this applies to you, seek medical advice from a doctor or clinician. 

Precautions Before Taking Foundayo

Ensure that you talk to your clinician or doctor before taking Foundayo if you:

• Have or have ever had pancreatitis 
• Are using a sulfonylurea (another diabetes medication) and/or insulin. Your doctor may need to change your dose of these other treatments
• Have severe problems with food digestion or food remaining in your stomach for longer than normal
• Are using antihypertensive medicines for low blood pressure. Your doctor may need to change your doses of these medicines
• Have gallbladder problems
• Have a problem with your eyes or vision (such as diabetic retinopathy or macular oedema)
• Have or have had severe heart failure
• Are due to have surgery where you will be under anaesthesia

You should also seek medical advice if you have kidney problems and experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea. These adverse reactions can cause dehydration, so it’s important to drink enough fluids to prevent this. 

Foundayo and Other Medicines

It’s essential that you tell your doctor or clinician about any other medicines you are taking before you start Foundayo. This includes over-the-counter treatments or herbal remedies. Some medications may affect how orforglipron works, or vice versa, while others could make you more likely to experience side effects.

The following treatments may increase the concentration of Foundayo in your blood:

• Clarithromycin for bacterial infections 
• Itraconazole or ketoconazole, used for fungal infections
• Ritonavir or telaprevir to help with viral infections

On the other hand, some medications could reduce the amount of Foundayo in your blood. These include:

• Carbamazepine or phenytoin for the treatment of seizures or fits
• Bosentan to treat pulmonary hypertension
• Efavirenz for viral infections
• Rifampicin, used for bacterial infections
• St John’s Wort

Foundayo may increase the amount of certain treatments in your blood. Examples include:

• Simvastatin and rosuvastatin for lowering cholesterol 
• Topotecan to treat certain types of cancers 

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Foundayo should not be used during pregnancy as the effects of the medication on an unborn child are not known. You should therefore use contraception while taking this medicine. If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or are planning on having a baby, you should ask your clinician or doctor for advice before starting treatment. It is recommended that you stop using orforglipron at least 3 weeks in advance of trying for a baby, and discuss how to change your treatment with a doctor.

It’s not known if Foundayo passes into breast milk, so a risk to newborns and infants cannot be ruled out. As a result, you should not use Foundayo if you are breastfeeding. 

Can I Get Foundayo in the UK?

Although Foundayo (orforglipron) has now been approved by the MHRA, it is not yet available for purchase. This should happen relatively soon, however. All GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only medications, meaning they can only be obtained from a registered pharmacy. It’s important that you only buy from regulated sellers, as failing to do so can carry serious health risks. 

Other GLP-1 agonist medicines, such as Wegovy injections, Wegovy pills, and Mounjaro, are available to purchase in the UK with a valid prescription. 

When Will Foundayo Be Available in the UK?

It’s not certain when Foundayo will become available in the UK. However, the fact that it has now been approved by the MHRA means there should not be much longer to wait. 

Foundayo Price: How Much Will it Cost?

Since Foundayo is not currently available in the UK, it is not possible to provide an accurate cost for those wanting to take it here. Prices may vary significantly in the UK, depending on distribution costs and other market factors, compared with its current sale price in the United States.

Pricing is usually based on the dose you need, with higher doses costing more. 

Comparing Mounjaro and Foundayo 

Mounjaro (containing the active ingredient tirzepatide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, similar to Foundayo, and is also used to support weight loss. Both of these medications are made by Eli Lilly. There are two main differences between Mounjaro and Foundayo. The first is that Mounjaro is administered via a once-weekly subcutaneous injection, while the second is that Mounjaro is also a GIP agonist, as well as acting on GLP-1 receptors.

Many people will have a preference between oral and injectable medications. The benefit of injecting Mounjaro is that you only have to remember to do it once a week, compared to daily tablets. However, the discomfort from injections (or a fear of needles) can be off-putting to some. Currently, only Mounjaro is available to purchase in the UK with a private prescription. 

Comparing Wegovy and Foundayo 

Wegovy (containing the active drug semaglutide) and Foundayo are both GLP-1 agonist medications used to help with weight loss. Wegovy is manufactured by Novo Nordisk and is available in the UK in both subcutaneous injection and oral pill forms. Clinical trials have demonstrated that, although there are small differences between semaglutide (Wegovy) and orforglipron (Foundayo) in tolerability and side-effect profiles, both medications are considered highly effective in supporting healthy weight loss.

Currently, only Wegovy (both injection and pill forms) is available to buy in the UK with a valid prescription. Semaglutide is also sold under the brand name Ozempic for the management of type 2 diabetes.
